Rabbit Production

This is the newest edition of a classic in raising rabbits commercially. This edition has color photographs that prove to be very useful. It contains practical useful and up-to-date information that simply cannot be found elsewhere. Not a how-to book for pet rabbit owners, but a serious manual for producing high quality healthy rabbits in an economical manner. I would not attempt to raise rabbits commercially without this "bible" on the bookshelf.

Very Helpful companion book

I just checked this book out from the local library and after skimming through it, marking what I want to go back and read in detail, I am convinced that this is a book that I can't be without! This book has TONS of detailed information, including several chapters on the genetics of rabbits. It is the first book that I have found that just doesn't gloss over rabbits as a whole, but actually gets down to the nitty gritty. There's a lot of detailed information about the diseases, how to have a successful rabbitry (if that is your goal), food guidelines, the importance of vitamins, etc. Do yourself a favor: get ahold of this book!

The challenge in today’s overcrowded marketplace is to STAND OUT and become VISIBLE rather than to remain invisible in a market with a multiplicity of similar items from which to choose. To become remarkable means the entrepreneur or enterprise must do something which is, in some way, well, REMARKABLE. The product the business or entrepreneur offers to the world must be packaged through an inventive strategy designed to set their product out in the forefront ahead of the competition. According to Godin, purple cow innovation is more than cutting edge...It’s more than mass advertising...It’s more than a recognizable household name...It’s more than tried and true. Instead, It. Is. Original. Purple cow is offering an item in an inventive, new way. It’s unusual...It’s consistent...It’s fun!..It’s something-you-must-have-because-it-meets-a-need and is absolutely dependable.

Although having a good idea or a useful product is great, most likely, in today’s market that is not enough without the stand-out-from-the-crowd purple cow. Must Do, Step 1, for ANY Business

There seem to be two camps reviewing this book. One say that is brilliant and their favorite book of all time. The other says the book is shallow and void of original ideas. Both are right...and wrong.

The main idea of the book is spot on. If your business is not unique, it will be invisible. Marketing an invisible business is tough.

To the critics who say the basic idea is simple and therefore not ground breaking, I agree. But Godin manages to clarify a simple, very important idea that most business owners overlook. There is an elegance to his clarity.

Godin writes books that have a single core idea. He writes in a conversational tone. His books are short and readable. By the way, all of Godin's books make great audio books because they are in his conversational voice.

There are two categories of business books. There are the big serious tomes about how somebody saved ABC Corporation from disaster and made billions in the process. And then there are books for the rest of us. Purple Cow is a "rest of us" book. Years after reading the book, I still struggle with developing my own purple cow. It isn't easy.

Great book but buy the old version!

This is a great book, but don't be fooled thinking you need to purchase the "new edition" with the "bonus chapter". The bonus chapter is just a bunch of people who wrote in about their favorite store/coffeeshop/place to hang out. The stories are poorly written and add no value. Buy the book - but buy the bargain ones without the bonus chapter.

In reading television, one must consider such factors as manifest and latent meanings, source, intended audiences, sponsorship, scheduling, genre, cast, plot, technical aspects, and myriad other variables that all have a bearing on the way a given program will potentially be interpreted by viewers. Reading television is complex. This book provides the terms and the overview of attributing meaning to television content.
One should not feel overwhelmed in attempting to understand television, however, as life itself has its own complexities. "Reality is itself a complex system of signs interpreted by members of the culture in exactly the same way as are film or television programmes," the authors write. Unpleasant experience

This book is really unpleasant. I used it for an introductory mathematical statistics class. Perhaps I am used to the prose style of mathematics, but this is really difficult to follow and in general not helpful. Definitions are sparse and examples aren't too enlightening. Most exercises are routine and a few are ill-formed or poorly stated. Most offensive was the price. It's a real crime what big publishers do nowadays. I can get 10 times the content in 1/10th the pages from a dover publication. Save the glossy printing and unneeded color for others, I can do without it. Stay away if possible, or borrow from a friend or the library.

This has to be one of the worst textbooks I've had to use in my college experience. I'm an applied math major and have had my share of abstract math that is difficult to read, but that is not the problem with this book. The main problems are:

1: Numerous typos which will leave you scratching your head when you read an example (if he even provides one, see point 2) because it will appear he did some calc or algebra magic to get what he was after, then your stats instructor will just say "no, this book just has a lot of mistakes" which will lead to a complete rage out because, after all, IT IS THE 8th EDITION FOR CRIPES SACK. Fix your book John, or maybe proof read it at least.

2: The examples he gives are laughably trivial, and what is even more annoying, the writer was often to lazy to even come up with a problem which you can follow on one page. Instead he constantly, and I mean that in the most literal way, refers back to problems 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 chapters back. It is just terrible pedagogically because you are constantly having to break your concentration to go hunt this example down, then flip back and forth to see how he is doing something with the info from that page forever ago. Very poor effort on his part to try and teach this exciting topic.

3: His definitions and explanations are okay but often unfathomable. The main purpose of lecture seems to be for my professor to restate Johnny's mess in ways a human can understand and execute properly.

4: He never really provides any motivation for the definitions, which is incredibly frustrating as a math person. He just states the definition, but will often not bother to explain why this is the definition and how it came to be, and there is a lot of historical significance to most these definitions.

5: Lastly, I'm just outraged that this book is filled with mistakes, poor teaching methods, and is borderline unreadable; yet it is in its 8th edition and will cost you a significant amount of money. What am I paying for with this new edition? I also have the 7th and the books are identical (This even includes, and I'm not kidding, typos! Yes, that's right, the new edition still has the typos and errors from the 7th from what I've seen so far). What the new edition has the old didn't you may ask: it is reformatted so the pages are larger (which is useless since you have to constantly flip back to other pages anyway) and the problems have been rearranged, though they remain exactly the same.

Long story short: typos, terrible writing, and an absolute void of fluid reading make this book pure garbage. Stay away and if you must use it buy another stats book to help you get through because this book won't do it alone unless you go to a lot of office hours. See reviews of the 7th for good recommendations of books to actually learn stats.

Offers some brief insights into INFJ types that is helpful, although as an INFJ myself I'd have to remind folks that this is just generalities & not everything applies to every INFJ. Keep in mind while reading this that we're all unique, because there were quite a few things in the book that didn't apply to me at all. Still an interesting read.
