About the Author
Yoshitaka Amano is a Japanese artist, character designer, illustrator and a theatre and film scenic designer and costume designer. He first came into prominence in the late 1960s working on the anime adaptation of Speed Racer. Amano later became the creator of iconic and influential characters such as Gatchaman, Tekkaman:The Space Knight, Hutch the Honeybee, and Casshan. In 1982 he went independent and became a freelance artist, finding success as an illustrator for numerous authors, and worked on many best selling novels such as The Guin Saga and Vampire Hunter D. He is also known for his commissioned illustrations for the popular video-game franchise Final Fantasy.
Since the 1990s Amano has been creating and exhibiting paintings featuring his iconic retro pop icons in galleries around the world, primarily painting on aluminium box panels with acrylic and automotive paint. He is a 5 time winner of the Seiun Award, and also won the 1999 Bram Stoker Award for his collaboration with Neil Gaiman, Sandman:The Dream Hunters.
Amano's influences include early Western comic books, art nouveau, and Japanese woodblock prints. In early 2010, he established Studio Devaloka, a film production company. The author lives in Tokyo, Japan & New York, N.Y..

I own the other books in this series and I love them all. This one is a little different in that it includes a lot of Amano's pencil work, which was nice to study. I would recommend this to anyone interested in FF or in Art in general. There is some really good reference art in this book.

If a citizen does good, they gain points. If a citizen does bad, including breaking laws, they lose points. When your number reaches zero, the band acts as judge, jury, and executioner, and you are injected with toxins that kill you within minutes.

After sorting, recruits are taken to a three month long mandatory school named HQ. It’s at HQ she meets new friends from different zones, and finally begins to feel at ease. Everything goes well until a rare trip home makes her discover that her father, who has been missing for a decade, may have taken part in a terrible program that stands to shake the fabric of society.

I wanted to like it!

I wanted to like this book; I really did. It has a good basis and would have made a great series! However, the characters are underdeveloped and the story is DRAWN out. I don't feel like the right things are highlighted, and way too many things go right for these kids as they break the rules. Again, great idea, it was just poorly executed. I couldn't even finish the 3rd installment; it was too painful.

I really enjoyed this series

I really enjoyed this series. Parts of it seemed pretty unrealistic and parts of it seemed pretty preachy, but overall, I really liked it. There's lots of action and suspenseful moments, and some romance. A fun series. I am an adult and I thought it was great, but it is also suitable for older kids/teens.

Whole set is a good read. I was excited that it wasn't so closely related to the Hunger Games, Divergent or the like as so many newer dystopian novels are. It has a very YA feel, but it kept me interested the entire time, and made me want to read the entire set.
